What This is About

Hello Readers!

I started this blog to combine my two great loves in life: reading and writing. Also I created it in order to stay tech- and vocab-savvy as I will be able to blog a lot more and keep my writing abilities fresh.
This blog is a book review. I'll read a book and then review it (kind of obvious there). For starters though, I'll talk about what kind of books I like to read that way you can know what I'll be writing about.
I am a lover of fiction. More specifically, I love fantasy novels. I'm in the middle of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz, the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance, and A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. I've also read some Star Wars book series. (If you like Star Wars, read the Darth Bane trilogy. It'll change your life.)
When I'm not reading one of those series, I like to slip in a historical (particularly Victorian era) romance novel. My favorite author of such being Julia Quinn. Sometimes my brain just needs a break from fantasy (or the next book in my series isn't out yet). An interesting thing about books I like to read is that I enjoy true crime novels as well. That may be the only non-fiction I enjoy. Yes, I've read Helter Skelter. I have also read about Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker. That, combined with my Criminal Minds obsession, leads to some pretty paranoia-filled walks with my dog. That may be another reason I need to read some romance novels every once in a while too...
Something that I have also tried to do is read more great classics. I feel it's important to read the books that have shaped the written word and even our society's ideals. Plus, it's inspiration for the kind of writing I hope to do one day. That is, the kind that sticks; the kind that people remember. The kind that lingers with a reader. Have you ever read a book that broke your heart when you finished it? Have you ever slipped into an, albeit very small, depression because of something your favorite characters faced? That is what happens when a book lingers with you. I know I may not do this with a blog, but hopefully I can reach people with it, maybe inspire some new readers, heck maybe gain a fan base.
I just hope that you like what I write and come back for more. Maybe you'll pick up a copy of Odd Thomas and cry your heart out like I did at a certain spot (no spoilers!). Maybe you'll read the latest of Karen Chance's books and get so mad at her that you are contemplating sending her a very sternly worded email (yeah, there's no way I can boycott the series, regardless of who she...misplaces).
So, just read the blog. I'll be reading too. You can also send me ideas for books to read. Although, like most nerd girls I know, I have piles of books I already own that I haven't read, so your suggestion might just be at the bottom of a lengthy list. But I'll definitely keep it in mind regardless!
Bottom line: enjoy the written word. I know I do.
